Critical Discourse Analysis
Critical Discourse Analysis
My individual contribution to the critical discourse analysis was first formulating the idea on which film to specifically break down (other than politics) and then going into deeper context with a couple of slides. Sourcing the background information on both figures from our video lied into my hands as well as describing the change in tone from both speakers as the video progressed. Enveloping the idea onto classmates of the level of respect of both speakers based on their celebrity status put the ball in my court to explain the functions and dynamics of how this conversation went from zero to one hundred quickly. While creating this presentation, our group faced errors when it came to working on the project around the same time frame. Members of the group had different time schedules that they were available other than class time, leading to a confusion at the beginning on who’s working on a particular slide. Another area in which we struggled with at first was controlling Canva, as we chose that app instead of using Google slides. Our group wanted to be unique and authentic but in the process we took a little bit of time to figure out how to create text and make our project look presentable with images and all of the other necessities. My takeaway from this project is that we’ve been around critical discourse our whole lives whether we notice it or not, understanding it more and more into the growing stages of our lives visualizes a world greater than we could imagine. Critical Discourse remains flowing throughout our society, empowering all to think deeper in the midst of breaking down speech. Until this project, I’ve never even thought of the ideology of critical discourse, however since our group’s presentation I can’t stop without thinking about this topic while watching TV or a movie. I will furthermore apply critical discourse to my daily life in relation to explaining it to
family, allowing them to enhance their thinking into a realm of endless possibilities. In addition, critical discourse is forever growing and as each generation passes it will still be relevant inside and outside of the classroom. Critical Discourse has made me believe every speech is worth studying, it surprisingly connects with psychology in understanding another human being based on their methods of speech or tone of speech.
